Oscar Ukonu

One of eight artists invited by the Academy to create statuettes inspired by their love of movies, Ukonu lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria.

"Inspired by Lupita Nyong'o and her 2014 Oscar acceptance speech, I attempted to create a statuette surrounded by different shades of blue, representing the global influence of the movies, on and off screen, among different cultures, geographies and races."
